CHILD PROTECTION & SOCIAL PROTECTION
Our work in the area of child protection and social protection has included the development of behaviour change and communication strategies, capacity building of protection-focused personnel, and the design of participatory tools that support safe environments for children and caregivers. We have delivered assignments for organisations including UNICEF and Winrock International in countries such as Zimbabwe, Jordan, Uzbekistan, South Sudan, Botswana, and across Central Asia. We have a particular focus on psychosocial wellbeing, safety in online and offline spaces, and protective parenting, and bring experience in supporting child and social protection within emergency, displacement, and development contexts.
Services
Strategy: We provide strategic support for the integration of communication approaches into child protection and social protection programming, including psychosocial wellbeing, parenting, anti-bullying, GBV prevention, and protection in emergencies.
Research: We contribute to needs assessments and SBC landscape analyses that explore protection-related behaviours, risks, and institutional responses in both online and physical environments.
Evaluation: We support programme reviews and learning synthesis for child and social protection initiatives with community engagement and communication components.
Capacity: We deliver Training of Trainers and tailored training tools for child protection staff, social workers, and community actors working with vulnerable children and families.
Knowledge Management: We develop guidance tools and learning resources that enable adaptation and application of communication and protection approaches across multiple settings.
Creative Production: We produce illustrated tools, psychosocial training materials, and behaviour-focused media to support safe, inclusive, and rights-based child and social protection interventions.
Our Experience
We are experienced in designing and delivering communication-focused protection interventions that centre the rights and wellbeing of children, youth, and families. We have supported UNICEF and partners to strengthen messaging and outreach in schools, communities, and migrant contexts. We can demonstrate the ability to create accessible, engaging tools for both in-person and digital use, grounded in participatory approaches and local realities.
Projects & Consultancies
Our past work in the child and social protection area includes:
SAWA Anti-Bullying Initiative, UNICEF Jordan (2020): We developed psychosocial training modules for the SAWA programme focused on addressing bullying and violence in schools. We adapted the content for digital delivery including animations and peer-to-peer learning formats.
C4D Training with Child Protection Components, UNICEF Zimbabwe & ESARO (2019): For this assignment we delivered regional training sessions on communication for development, with integrated content on child protection, positive behaviour, and psychosocial support.
SBC Training for Child Protection and Health, UNICEF Uzbekistan (2023): We conducted a national training for regional and district health and child protection staff. We co-designed content on interpersonal communication, trust-building, and community engagement in protective services.
Training Resources for Parenting, Hygiene, and Nutrition, UNICEF South Sudan (2023): We developed dialogue guides and illustrated materials covering child health, nutrition, hygiene, and family wellbeing. These were used by protection and health workers engaging with caregivers in emergency settings.
SBC Landscape Analysis, UNICEF Botswana (2023): In this project we conducted a national SBC landscape study with a strong focus on protection, safety, and behaviour in schools and communities. We included analysis of online safety, GBV, and adolescent wellbeing through interviews and field research.
SBC Training on Safe Migration and Online Safety, Winrock International – Central Asia (2023): We delivered a training on social and behaviour change communication for Winrock staff and partners. The content addressed protection issues related to safe migration, online safety, and trafficking prevention.
